I would like to have my newly founded organization recognized. Who should I contact and what documents do I need?
If you are interested in recognition, it is important that your organization meets the recognition criteria listed in the "Reglement zur Anerkennung studentischer Organisationen an der Universität Zürich"

What steps should I take if I want to start a student organization?

Who do I contact to start a new student association (Fachverein)?
If there is no student association (Fachverein) in your study program yet and you would like to remedy this gap, first contact the institute. With their support, the foundation of the association can then be pursued.
Newly founded student associations can be definitively recognized directly by Campus Culture with the consent of the responsible institute.
What do I need for my organization to be allowed to call itself an "organization at the University of Zurich"?
The phase of provisional recognition (at least three years of activity) must be successfully completed. If the student organization receives definitive recognition, it may call itself an "organization at the University of Zurich" until revoked.
Do recognized student organizations have rights and obligations toward the University of Zurich?

Is our organization allowed to use the logo of UZH?
No - the logo of UZH may not be used on the website or on flyers, posters or other printed materials. Futhermore, the acronym "UZH" is protected by trade mark law and may also not be used; the acronym must also not be used in the name of the student organization.
An exception applies to student associations (Fachvereine); they are permitted to use the logo of UZH in the footer of the website as well as on printed materials.
Is there office space available for student organizations?
A limited number of rooms at UZH are designated for use by student organizations. Nevertheless, there is a shortage of space in many places at UZH. For this reason, no organization can be guaranteed office space – there is a waiting list.
What criteria do I need to meet in order to host a student event?
Only events organized by recognized student organizations will be approved. For events with external speakers organized by student organizationsa patronage (PDF, 83 KB) can be requested. Compliance with the Code of Conduct Campus Life is a basic requirement for any event held at UZH.
For larger events, a concept must be submitted in addition to the application form for events requiring approval.

I have never planned a student event before. Where can I get support?

How can I draw attention to my event, what advertising measures are available to me?
Posters, sending of mass e-mails (once per semester), targeted flyers and stand actions help to draw attention to the event. Here you can find informations about advertising opportunities.

How can I finance my event?
There are several ways to cover the costs of an event. You can find tips on this in the Guidelines from VSUZH Impulsfabrik (PDF, 4 MB). Recognized student organizations can submit an application for financial support, including a budget, to Campus Culture.
Participation fees should not be charged, as student events should be open to everyone.
Can I organize the catering myself or do I have to consider ZFV?
As a general rule, eating and drinking are not permitted in lecture halls and seminar rooms. However, there are designated areas where you are allowed to eat and drink. The Room Allocation Services will be happy to assist you: raumdisposition@campuskultur.uzh.ch, 044 634 22 14.
The catering can be freely chosen. It is also possible to organize it yourself. It should be noted that cooking is not permitted in the rooms. In addition, all equipment, furniture and utensils must also be rented and all waste must be disposed of yourself.
